To become a substitute teacher in the state of California, you must meet the following requirements:

1. Have a bachelor's degree (or higher) from an accredited college or university.
   
   
2. Passed the California Basic Skills Test (CBEST)
   
   
3. Complete a background clearance through fingerprinting
