High Objective Uniform State Standard Evaluation (HOUSSE)

This is the California Department of Education (CDE) Proposal

(100 points from Five categories is needed to meet HQT)

  1. Prior experience in assigned area
        - 10 points per year with a 5 year maximum

  2. Core Academic Coursework in Assigned Area
    POINTS
        - Points based on units completed
        - Liberal Studies Waiver Program
        - Supplemental Authorization
        - Advanced Degree
        - National Board Certification (NBPTS)

  3. Standards Aligned Professional Development (1997 or later)
        - Reading and Math Professional Development (AB466)
        - Reading Excellence Act Programs
        - Support for Secondary Schools Reading Programs
        - Beginning Teacher Support and Assessment Program
        - Participation in, but not yet certified in NBPTS
        - LEA approved Standard Aligned Professional Development
        20 hours = 5 points, 40 hours = 10 points

  4. Service to the Profession in Assigned Area
        - Mentor - Department Chair
        - Curriculum Coach - BTSA Support Provider
        - Supervising Teacher - University Instructor
        - National/State Recognition as ³Outstanding Educator²
        1 year = 30 points

  5. Direct Observation or Portfolio Assessment
        - Completion of Successful Observation = 20 points
        - Completion of Successful Portfolio Assessment = 100 points
The teacher earns a "Certificate of Compliance" which is signed by the Teacher and verified/signed by the Principal/Superintendent/Designee.
